Celiac friendly restaurant in León city

Author: Celiac But Happy

We recently took a trip to Asturias and we planned to stop in León to take a look around, see the famous cathedral and so on. The first thing I did before leaving was browse around the web to find a restaurant in León with gluten-free food.

Among the options we found we decided for the restaurant “Alfonso Valderas”. It happened to be a delicious choice.

The restaurant specializes in cod and beef. It was nice surprise to find  they have a varied gluten-free menu

Among the starters they have:

  • Scramble eggs with cod and cecina
  • Shrimp Scampi
  • Cheese with tomato and honey sauce
  • Iberic Spanish ham
  • Grilled vegetables
  • Squid
  • Grilled mushrooms
  • Salads

I ordered something DELICIOUS: octopus strudel with candied potato, that was not only delicious but nicely served.

Among main courses there are beef and fish choices:

  • Lamb chops
  • Beef chops
  • Tenderloin with foie
  • Cod a la Valderas
  • Cod pil-pil
  • Cod sauteed with mushrooms
  • Rice with cod and aioli (aioli is kind of a garlic mayonnaise)
  • Grated cod with Valderas cheese
  • Cod with tomato compote and pil-pil

I ordered a goooood grilled beef…excellent :-)

And for dessert:

  • Flan
  • Custard (natillas)
  • Peach soufflé with vanilla cream
  • Rice pudding
  • Lemon cream

I ordered cheese cake but I was so full by then that I took it to go.

We were attended by Arantxa who told us she was diagnosed with celiac disease one year ago and it was easy for her to get used to the celiac diet because they have it all under control at the restaurant, where there are two more celiacs.

The restaurant is not cheap, but it’s worth it.

The “Alfonso Valderas” is centric, located at “Arco de Ánimas, 1” street and there is a parking close by.

After a great lunch, we went to take a walk around the city center and visit the cathedral.
